This work is part of a recent series called “Gone Fishing.” They are all 13X13” and involve stenciled spray enamel & mixed media on either wood or paperboard.
By way of an artist’s statement I’d describe them as small exercises in Surrealist Method. Details of a larger piece might be cut out & combined with pieces from another work onto which elements used elsewhere (such as the stencils themselves) are collaged or small whatnots are glued. Some of the happiest results are made altogether of “leftovers.” The criterion is that what I wind up with must surprise me.
